Work Party

October 8-11

Yes its fall! Dewy cool mornings and actual rain have blessed the landscape. With the change of weather and length of days we begin preparing the landscape for winter. As the saying goes “many hands make light work” and thats why we extend the invitation to join us for our fall party filled with all things land based and fun.

The weekend begins Friday night with an organic meal prepared for you when you arrive. We continue the weekend with morning and afternoon tasks, 3 meals and talks on subjects such as community, prescribed burns, nature connection and more. We end Sunday afternoon after lunch.

Some examples of activities we will be working on:

Brush clearing for preparation for a prescribed burn

Fruit processing

Garden Bed preparation

Fire Wood stacking

If you attend you will be camping under the redwoods, sharing meals outside (as per covid protocol), using composting toilets, getting dirty and having fun.

We ask for a small donation of 15$ per day per person to cover the cost of food.

There will be time for relaxation, long walks and interesting conversation.

If you are interested please click the button that says Questionnaire and fill out a small form by October 4th. We will respond promptly.

Please read our current Covid Protocol Page.

Prescribed Burn Preparation Work Party (Copy)

“Fire is a natural part of our environment. As we choose to live in areas where wildfires occur, we must adapt the way we design, build and live in these areas so that communities are resilient to inevitable wildfires. The more actions a community takes, the more fire-adapted it may become.”

Emerald Earth is dedicated to preserving the health and vitality of the land. Current residents recognize that we occupy the traditional lands of the Tabuteh Pomo People. As the present stewards of this land we are realigning with the ancient practice of planned and prescribed burns to prevent catastrophic wild fires. We will be conducting our first burn in March with the help of TREX (Prescribed Burn Traing) and the PBA (Prescribed Burn Association) who have been guided by the Yurok and Karuk Tribes. There will be two work parties prior to the burn that will prepare the land. The preparation includes, but is not limited to, limbing fire ladders, clearing and consolidating slash, clearing fire breaks. If you would like more information please shoot us an email at community@emeraldearth.org. Currently we are sourcing our volunteers for the work parties from our local community but are happy to share information. Look out for future instagram videos documenting the process.

The next Buddha may take the form of a community -a community practicing understanding and loving kindness, a community practicing mindful living. This may be the most important thing we can do for the survival of the earth.”
